Make it Happen in Alton, IL

Close to 70 organizations submitted applications during the month-long submission period that ended November 4. Combined Insurance and The Telegraph welcomed entries from organizations and individuals that perform community services, sponsor programs, or events that benefit the residents of Madison, Jersey, Macoupin, Greene, and Calhoun counties in Illinois.

 

The award recipients used their grants for

  • Alton Little Theatre completed much needed roof repairs.
  • Alton Volunteer Emergency Corps replaced an aging heating system.
  • Alton Youth Symphony purchased music stands and a keyboard amplifier.
  • C.A.S.A. (Community Against Substance Abuse) will send five at-risk students to Camp Success, a unique weekend program that combines fun and learning in a positive setting.
  • Cherry Street Baptist Church purchased food for its weekly “Soup’s On” luncheon.
  • Community Hope Center, Inc. paid for prescriptions for those coming to the free clinic.
  • Crisis Food Center, Inc. provide approximately 50 needy families with a turkey or ham dinner with all the trimmings for Christmas, 2005.
  • Dreamweavers M.C., Inc. paid for 15 needy children go shopping with the Shop with a Cop program during the Christmas, 2005 season.
  • Operation Blessing, “People That Care,” Inc. used it’s award to stock its food pantry.
  • The William M. Bedell Achievement and Resource Center (ARC) purchased a hydraulic lift to transfer non-ambulatory, developmentally disabled individuals attending the Developmental Training Program.
